The Lovers
There are many different types of relationships that we encounter throughout our lives. Some may change us for better, and some could possibly change us for the worse. People may have positive or negative relationships with siblings, relatives, friends, or even significant others. Rene Magritte’s “The Lovers” displays a painting of a man and a woman kissing. However they both have a veil covering their heads so that their lips will never physically meet.  Many wonder of the relationship between the two lovers, however I believe that they are hiding their feelings for each other.

The veil they wear represents this barrier that most people put on themselves to protect themselves from heartbreak. It’s not healthy, because if you cannot open up yourself to someone then you most likely have shut yourself off from everyone else that potentially cares for you. This all relates to the Myth of Sisyphus.

He was a man who was punished for defying the gods. Everyday he had to carry a boulder up a mountain and have it roll back down to the bottom. At first, he hated the exercise. But as time rolled on he grew to accept it, and now he is content with carrying a giant boulder up a mountain.  The same applies to people who are to open up and accept the fact that maybe, just maybe someone really does want to know and understand you and how you truly are, then everything in life becomes beautiful.

  2. The person on the right looks like Slender Man. Aside form that, changes are sometime very scary. It can change a person to a completely new person that may require giving up their old group of friends and finding new ones. But I guess as you grow older, you'll be making changes where it can benefit you.

  3. I look at this and see personal desire over moral duty. You see god has punished them but they will still do it anyway.
